Oh my goodness. This winter is killing me. I actually say that every year right around early February. After my birthday (mid-January) and before April when the weather breaks, I start to go stir-crazy. Cabin fever sets in, and I worry that I'll become Edie Beale from Grey Gardens, dancing with a sweater on my head in a bathing suit and talking nonsense. In 13 degree weather, the only thing that keeps me going is daydreams of the tropics. Beaches, palms, rum drinks, tiki torches, warm breezes. Some days I actually think if I just went to JFK, bought a ticket, and ended up in St. Barth's, what's the worst that could happen... In short, this entry is dedicated to the islands. Things to dream about and cheer up your wintry existence:
Awesome 1940's movie poster from www.1stdibs.com, $340
Huge white driftwood lamp (roughly 3' wide by 4' tall), also on www.1stdibs.com, $2800 (yikes!)
My favorite of all warm-climate flowering plants, bougainvilla, roughly $15 Here
This impressively kitsch painted bamboo curtain can be yours for $73 Here
And last but not least, the clearest sign to me of the Caribbean blue seas and sandy feet is a great hammock, which can be found Here for $100. It looks like it would hold about six people with Red Stripes in hand.
My frozen hands are too cold to type anymore, and frankly I'm getting depressed, so I must sign off. Enjoy the imagery and remember, this (cold) too shall pass.
On a more serious note, I would like to mention a beachy place that could use some help right now. In light of the devastating earthquakes in Haiti, please continue to donate to the relief effort: Donate Here
Thank you, kind altruist!
